Online Summer Activities vs. In-person
Answered

Hi! I am applying for summer programs for this upcoming summer and I was wondering whether it matters to the college admissions, especially top university admissions officers, that I participate in an in-person or online summer program. For example, I am applying to EFL which has selective admission for both their in-person and online programs. Both programs are activity-packed, but will it look better to admissions if I do it in person, or is it ok to do it online?

It's totally okay to do it online (especially if traveling is challenging or cost prohibitive). A selective internship hosted online is still a selective internship. You may leave an online internship with a slightly different skill set than an in person one, but both sets of skills are still valuable and important. Online and hybrid formats are the future, in both higher education and the work force, so an in person one is not necessarily better or more impressive. Chose whichever option works best for you! When it comes to filling out your college apps, the most important thing is to show what you've learned and why the experience was valuable, regardless of how this learning occurred.
