Confused about an essay prompt on a math summer program application
Answered

"Extracurricular activities you like (both mathematical and non-mathematical; and, okay, you can include activities you don't like if you think that would be interesting)..."

So this is the essay prompt. I am confused about whether I should include my interests and hobbies in the essay. My main extracurricular is football and I'm in the school U-17 team. (The best player in the team. Vice-captain. ) I can really talk about it a lot.

Moreover, does olympiad preparation count as an extracurricular? I mean I've really done a lot. I was studying 11-12th grade content in my sophomore year only. And the only reason why I was not able to achieve anything from the olympiad is because my preparation really went downhill during the last months, due to sickness, my school exams and a lot of other stuff I can't talk about here. I devoted a major time of my year towards Math and I'm the best at it at least in my grade. (I went to an inter-school olympiad, representing my school and was among the top 3 school students.)

The essay is asking you to talk about a math based extracurricular and extracurriculars that you like. Football can count as the regular extracurricular. Olympiad preparation can count as an extracurricular because that's something you do outside of class. Also, you can count participating in the inter-school Olympiad too, since this was also done outside of regular academics. Include your interests and hobbies too because programs want to see who you are as a person and that you're a well rounded individual.
