What do I major in?
Answered

Hello all,

I am a sophomore in high school.

I've been thinking about what to major in college, i'm not 100% sure but I have a few interests that I can see myself pursue a career in.

-Biology

-Pharmaceutical Sciences

- Pathology

-Psychiatry

I like all of these, but i'm not sure what major will help me earn a good salary and have a good job in the future. I'm open to studying something else as well. Can someone help me pick something?

Hey, I'm a senior this year :)

I spent a lot of years researching and preparing for majors that I thought would be suited to my abilities. I considered a lot of majors similar to yours, like psychology and the medical field. But over time, I realized I was considering majors I thought I should do, not majors I actually wanted to do. The important thing is to think about your priorities. Do you want to earn a lot of money? With these majors, you might do that, but there's also a good chance you'll spend long hours working and have additional work to do at home. Do you want to spend your days doing something you love? Right now, you don't sound very passionate about these choices, so they may not be right for you.

I eventually came to see that there is nothing I would rather do than work in a library. My career aspirations may be more humble, but I know they will bring me joy. I also hope to major in Information Sciences so I can help libraries digitize and advance, which will help me make a decent salary as well. Don't spend too much time worrying about your major. Eventually, the right thing will come to you. Most people in college still aren't sure about what they want to do or major in, so you have no need to rush yourself :))

Hi! I hope you are having a great day so far. I would like to start out with first of all these are all great majors/fields to go into. Secondly, it is great that you are already thinking about careers as a sophomore! I am a sophomore too and even though I know what career I want to go into, I don't have any backups.

With that being said, I think you should go into a major that best reflects what you want to do in life. Do you want to work with people? Do you want a flexible work schedule? Are you willing to do lots of physical labor? These are all things to consider when choosing a major/career. Another thing to consider is that you don't have to always just choose one path, if you are interested in pursuing multiple things; sometimes there is a way to do them both.

I am not sure if you would like to be a biology pre-med/pre-dental major or a general biology major, but if you would like to be one then there is a lot of pharmacies involved with this field, now you can do two of the things you like.

In closing, if you are passionate about a certain career then go for it! Don't let money stop you from doing something you love (I would like to mention that all of these majors do have pretty good-paying jobs). One thing that can help you to access what major you may like is the extracurriculars you are in. Which path does your EC(s) most reflect?

I hope this helps:).
