how to get a better SAT score?

Hi, I am a sophomore who is not very good at standardized testing. On the PSAT I tried very hard but did not get an excellent score. Does anyone have any advice on how to prepare me for the actual SAT junior year and how to improve my score?

Thank you!

For the Reading Section, you need to answer 52 questions from 5 passages in 65 minutes, which gives you around 12 minutes per passage. However, many test-takers struggle with time management. One way to improve both comprehension and time management is to spend 3-5 minutes skimming through the passage before moving on to the questions. If the passage is scientific, jot down the main idea (most likely the theory or hypothesis being tested) and evidence that supports this claim in the passage. For other types of passages, jot down the main message and other important details.

For Math, consistent practice is key. If you don't understand a topic while studying, don't skip it. Instead, watch videos and practice the topic until you understand it. Identify your point of confusion and analyze your mistakes so that you can avoid them in the future.

Khan Academy is an great resource for practice tests to help you get used to the time limit. They have practices for each topic that appears on the SAT.

College Board also has a lot of practice tests.

Other tips:

- Use the process of elimination. Eliminate obviously wrong answers on multiple-choice questions immediately.

- Don't spend too much time on a problem. If you're stuck, guess and move on. Come back to these questions if you have extra time at the end of the section.

- Don't second-guess yourself. Once you've answered a question, move on. Come back only if you have extra time.

- If you don't know the answer, guess. You don't lose points for guessing, so pick the most logical answer.

- Keep a schedule and set a goal to spend a certain number of hours practicing each week. Consistency is the key to improvement.
