How is the transfer rate from Michigan state university computer science to university of michigan lsa computer science?
Answered

I am an in state student in Michigan. I know that umich changed their admissions policy for computer science where you have to get admitted to the university first and then get admitted to computer science after. I was wondering how this affects transfers from msu after freshman year. I am planning to transfer after first semester at msu so I can attend the following fall at umich. What is it that umich looks for in transfers? what is the transfer rate for in-state students with the new admissions change? Can you still be accepted to transfer into umich lsa cs from msu if you get accepted into umich lsa but rejected from comp sci out of high school?

Though there is no data on the exact acceptance rate of MSU transfers to UMich, it is most likely a bit higher than the average transfer acceptance rate of 40%. You can still be accepted as a transfer student at UMich if you were rejected from the CS program or the university as a whole in high school.

UMich looks for transfer applicants who have a high college GPA, ideally above a 3.7. Your transfer admissions essay is crucial as well - it should highlight specific resources at UMich that you aspire to take advantage of and it should show your keen interest in the school. Professor recommendations are one more key component of transfer admissions.

Hope this helps!
