Admissions Advice

When applying internationally, do you have to exclusively use common-app, or can you apply on each school's website too?
Answered

I'm asking because the application process on common-app, relatively speaking, is lengthy compared to other independent website applications. Especially the teachers' recommendation part is particularly problematic for me, because you have to get your teachers to complete their recommendations within the deadline, in addition to all the work you do on your end.

Hi @Nahom!

The Common App is not the only option that you have, but I think it's the best option. As for the deadlines, you'll need to meet them even if you apply through a school's website. There might be some schools (like MIT) that only accept applications through their website, but you'll find most colleges on the Common App.

Hope this helps!

You can apply either on the Common App or Coalition App.

Large public state schools like the University of California system have their own application portal as does Georgetown, MIT, and about 3000 other colleges. The Common App has about 1000 colleges out of the 4300 offering a 4-year degrees.
