varsity sports - Track and field vs Tennis
Answered

Hi

I had been playing Tennis & track & field since my freshman year, and in my Junior year, I only played in Varsity - track & field.

I was wondering if I am not highlighting sports in my application- I am a STEM major , do universities weigh Tennis higher over track &field? I will just mention that I was part of our Track and field Varsity.

I just wanted to be part of one of the varsity teams, and I did not have the bandwidth to go for Tennis because I am also a strategy lead at my Robotics.

How would this impact my portfolio?

Thanks,

sports

Your athletics has very minimal impact on your acceptance or rejection unless athletics is the reason why you are applying to college. Athletics generally show admissions that you are disciplined and committed. It is good to mention sports, but if you are a stem major, you should involve yourself in your STEM major to a greater extent than your athletics.

Athletics, especially your commitment to a team and any leadership roles you may have participated in, are a good addition to your application but most schools will not really care unless you intend on pursuing them in college. I am going to be Pole Vaulting at the D1 level next year, so athletics really boosted my application status with plenty of schools I may not have gotten into otherwise, but most of my friends say their athletic accomplishments in high school did not seem to impact any of their acceptances/rejections.
