Hello!
This might be a silly question, but i am confused as to how colleges determine their admission cycles. I am wondering because of test-optional policies.
For example, Brown University states that their test optional policy will be active during the 2023-2024 admission cycle. Is that the cycle that just concluded? Or is that the coming cycle for current high school juniors?
Thank you!
No, it hasn't the 2023-2024 admissions cycle maps into the period where applications are being accepted to when decisions are made. So if most colleges start accepting applications in the Fall/Winter that is the starting point of the cycle. So 2023-2024 starts this Fall and ends a year from now in Spring 2024.
Most schools will continue to be test-optional except for MIT, Georgetown, UGA, GTech, and all Florida Schools. Plus a few Tenn colleges and all US Military Academies.
Colleges that are indefinitely TEST-Optional are William and Mary and Columbia University. (I would imagine that Barnard will soon follow that policy as well.)
Colleges that are TEST BLIND where they don't count no matter what are Caltech, all UC colleges, and all Cal State Colleges.
2023-2024 is the cycle for next year aka current juniors. go by the year you'll be graduating.
I would expect it to be the upcoming cycle since we are in the 2022-2023 school year. But I could be wrong. Good luck with your admission!
