What test can a USA student take that is equivalent to the Stúdentspróf?

Hello! I'm curious to hear from any students in Iceland, or anyone who knows info about the stúdentspróf, the Icelandic matriculation exam.

I'm interested in studying full time in Iceland for an undergraduate degree. I received info from admissions officers that in order to be accepted/apply to uni in Iceland you have to take the stúdentspróf. Does anyone know what US exams/standardized tests are equivalent?? Would the exam be in Icelandic or English? And if its in Icelandic, what language level would it consist of? (Using IcelandicOnline for reference)

In addition, I know you need a certain amount of college credit to begin with to begin as a first year. Does it matter if I self-study and take AP exams, or would I need to take the full class through my school to count for this requirement?
