Hi! I'm currently a sophomore in high school and will be a junior this fall. This will be my second summer working as a lifeguard at the local public pool.
I know some of my peers have participated in summer internships instead of working a summer job. I would appreciate insight on whether I should try for an internship next year or continue with my job as a lifeguard/swim instructor. I really enjoy my job, but I'm not sure if I should be exploring other fields outside of lifeguarding as I don't see myself doing this after college.
Thanks!
Your summer job doesn't necessarily have to be something you want to do in the future. However, it would be extremely beneficial to your college application if you get an internship that is part of your passion. Say for example you are going to do finance major, then it would be good if you internship with the financing team in a company or organization. College wants to see you developing yourself in summer and trying to be a better person. So if you see you can show that through your job then fine. But if you can get better opportunities with an internship then go for it for sure.
Hi, rising senior here! If you were to do an internship, I suggest doing it in the career field you'd like to go into. You could also find an internship at a business or college you would like to attend. This would look amazing on your application, especially since you took initiative and got a head start. Getting out of your comfort zone often has the best results and above all else, follow your heart. Best of luck!
