I’m attending the University of Maryland College Park (UMD) as a freshman this fall. I wanted to know if my major is marketable enough to get me into data science if I wanted to do it. UMD offers an uncommon major called Social Data Science which teaches some coding and survey stuff along with teaching social science courses like psychology. I want to do social data science with a focus on psychology because I like psychology but I also don't want to be poor. But I worry that if I do this, employers might be confused by the name of the major. Should I do this or consider doing UMD’s information science major while taking psychology courses for fun?
