Hi, so I'm a rising highschool senior and I'm starting to plan out my college essay.
Being transgender is a big part of my identity and my life, and I knew immediately I wanted to write about it. However, I've seen some people say it's a cliche topic.
Specifically, I wanted to talk about my struggles with living in an unsupportive family and overcoming their disappointment. I know this is a difficult topic to balance, but I've done a successful essay about being trans before and I'm confident I can do it well, if it's a good topic to pick.
FYI, I have other topics I could write about like being homeschooled, having mental health issues, or being autistic. I'd just prefer to write about being trans since it's a bigger part of my identity.
What do y'all think?
To be honest, I still see a great deal of success if you wrote about being trans. Sure, millions of people write about this topic, but the thing that sets most apart from others is the fact that it is true to them. Whatever you write on the topic, make it personal to you. AO's want to see a glimpse of you, and if this is you, then go for it!
If you do write about the other topics, then I strongly suggest doing the same. Make it true to you!
