I have done 2 independent research in my major of interest, But my GPA and SAT score sucks

My GPA is 3.61 and my SAT score is 1250 will this affect my chances of getting into a good university such as Purdue or Boston University?

Hi! Doing Independent Research is a great EC and definitely one that will boost your profile in the eyes of admissions officers. What other ECs do you have? Share all of them on your activity list! Make sure to have some sort of Community Engagement or Service.

Also, research about the universities you’re applying to; their requirements and the average scores/GPAs of admitted students. That should give you a good idea of where you stand overall.

While GPA is something you may not be able to amend, SAT score is. If you still have time and can give the SAT again… go for it! You’ll definitely improve your score and it can help make up for your lacking GPA!

Do note: this is just my take, and I’m no expert or ex-admission officer, just a fellow applicant. Hopefully you’ll get a more accurate answer but in the mean time… hope this helps :)

Good Luck!
