I was recently looking through the collegevine chancing sim, and I noticed that most of the colleges that I have lined up in the simulation at least encourage an applicant to have a letter of recommendation. I do have a letter of recommendations from my GED tutor via email, (will get physical copy soon). So, I was wondering exactly how much is a recommendation letter worth in admissions.
For a but more context on what college I'm looking for, I do not plan for an Ivy (it's unrealistic with costs and my stats, current and future, but one can dream). Instead, I'd rather set my sights to a college that has fairly strong STEM programs with a 40-75% admission rate.
I’m not sure if this may answer your question but recommendation letters are one part of the process: just like an SAT score, GED, and extracurriculars. Even if a college isn’t too selective they still want to get to know who you are especially in an academic setting and a recommendation letter is how they do it. Most schools require at least 1 recommendation letter. A recommendation letter can extremely effect your admissions decision so it is advised to students to ask a teacher that they know will say amazing things about them. If you had a mild-good relationship with your tutor and he can say great things about you, then you have nothing to worry about!

Oh, ok. So it helps factor in with getting to know the person applying. That actually makes sense now that I think of it (pretty sure I wrote the original question at about 9:30 last night) Anyways, thank you.
