Abbreviations on CommonApp

So for a EC description I'm character limited however and wanted to ask can I change

blah blah & yearly fundraiser that raises on average 1 (5k.) wanted to add the 15k part.

to blah blah & yearly fundraiser that raises approx. 15k.

I wanted a second opinion on whether or not it is okay to abbreviate approximately.

Abbreviations are totally fine, as long as they're common usage and obvious :) You could also use a tilde ~ to approximate amounts to save even more space, if you wish!
