Will a 1490 SAT help?
Answered

I’m getting from my college chance simulator in College Vine that submitting a 1490 SAT score for NYU would help me with my chances of getting in the university. However, this year, they released the average SAT score of their students and it says it was a 1540. Do you think submitting a 1490 will give me an advantage though? Or should I go Test optional? (Also I’m applying ED to NYU as an international student doing the IB so just if you need those pieces of info)

Since the average submitted SAT for accepted students was 1540, I honestly do not think submitting a 1490 or 50 points lower SAT score is going to give you any sort of advantage. But equally also do not think your application will be rejected based on a 1490. Therefore I recommend submitting your 1490 because IMO it's better than not submitting a test score. At least you will be within the range of those students accepted.

If you submitted a 1550+, that would probably give you a little boost.

I think the boost you will get is applying ED versus RD and that may be significant.

Good luck.
