I’m currently a senior in high school and I’m taking Ap Calc AB. Along with that I’m taking 4 ccp courses and ap physics as well. I want to go into engineering so I thought AP Calc would be a good choice but I’m thinking about dropping it.
The issue is my current work load is making me sleep at 12am-2am every single day. I did this last year but I really need to get my common app and essays done as well and I rarely get time in the weekend since I’ve been having to watch over my grandpa all day during the weekend.
I feel like AP calc would be good for engineering but I’m so tempted to drop right now since it’s about 1/4 of my after school work and it’s only the 3rd week in. The other 1/2 is my schools engineering academy which has 3 ccp classes it but I think that class is worth the work. My last 1/4 is all my other classes.
I also get so exhausted that I fall asleep right after school everyday. I also drive to school so I’m wondering if dropping it would be better for me to be more safe while driving. I also though that if I dropped it I would be able to go out more for my senior year.
I’m still really indecisive about this situation and was wondering if it would be worth it drop the course.
I also already took AP Chem and got a 4. I’ve also taken ap lang, APUSH, and ap gov and got a 3 on all exams. I’m technically a year ahead of math even if I drop to normal calculus. I also have a 31 act score. My EC consist of teachers assistant for an engineering class, yearbook head editor and photo editor, photography, crochet business, environmental organization leader, volunteering activities, and I’ve gotten community awards and I’m also in NHS. I don’t know if AP calc would be beneficial for adding more to my resume. If I did drop AP Calc I would still be in regular calc.
Most of my schools are instate as well and are not as competitive compare to ivys. (About 54% and above acceptance rates)
Your health and well-being should always take precedence over your course rigor. I think it would be wise to consider moving to regular Calc from AP Calc because you don't want to be in the middle of a devastating car accident. Then, it's game over.
Good luck
