Admissions Advice

What if my school does not offer a lot of opportunities for higher classes?

Within my small rural school, I have taken every possible honors class we offer but there are only 4 possible. We have weighted courses that I have taken but we do not consider those honors courses. In addition I have been apart of the first group of students to take the newly offered AP Psychology, but there is no way to express this.

Colleges will receive something called a "school profile" from your high school that details information about your school, including the courses you had access to. They will see in the school profile that you had no access to AP/honors courses. Colleges take this into account when reviewing your application; they won't look at your courseload the same way they'd look at a student who had access to over 20 APs and only took AP psychology.

Also, many schools have the option to list any extraneous circumstances that affected your application, so you can share this with them there. Good luck with your college applications!
