I'm an eleventh grader. in our country there is a division after 10th grade where students interested in STEM join the natural science stream and students interested in social science, like me, join the social science stream in which they will only learn math, English, history, economics, geography and ICT. does this have an impact on my application if I'm considering applying for Political science and Economics to Yale?
Since most high school students do not study Political Science or Economics in high school, Yale admits applicants who fit their culture and institutional fit and those who show great potential and future impact. I would recommend closely paying attention to what Yale is looking for on their admissions website.
For example, although they are test-optional, it's clear they favor those who have high test scores to submit. During the 2022-23 application cycle, 59% of admits submitted SAT scores, and 29% of admits submitted ACT scores. That is close to 88% combined but keep in mind that some students may have submitted both SAT/ACT scores.
Even colleges that have had test-optional policies for 10 to 20 years get a lot of submitted test scores (for example UChicago 84% and Bowdoin 85%) so you have to read their common data sets online and get a good feel for what each school is looking for.
Besides the usual course rigor, GPA, test scores, recommendations, essays, and rank, Yale is looking for students with impactful ECs, incredible talent, and remarkable personal character and personal qualities.
If you have any missing pieces or gaps in your academic or personal narrative, those are the things you should focus on right now.
Good luck.
