Is it possible for me to get into UNC Chapel Hill?

Hi, im a HS senior and UNC Chapel hill is my dream school basically. I'm currently a straight A student, but i failed most of my classes during my freshman covid year and wasn't eligible for honors classes nor AP classes until this year, and even then i need other credits to graduate. so basically in total, i have 1 honors class and 0 AP. Not much going on extracurricular wise, I got 2nd place in a countywide tech fair, do some church community service here and there, and have my own job. I know UNC Chapel hill is a hard school to get into, I'm in the neighboring state, but I believe my personal essay could really pull weight since i have an amazing story about my rough childhood.

anyway, the simulator on here gave me an 8% chance to get in, which really crushed me. It gave me a 6% for Harvard so I started to become really skeptical about it. Wondering if I should even waste my time applying. Do I have a shot?

I have been through this scenario and would either apply if you truly see yourself at this school (as long as you apply for safety schools), or apply to other more reasonable schools (and potentially transfer the following year). It is really up to you and I know that if you do end up applying, use up more outside time then intended to do so on your essay.
