I am a sophomore. I have taken honors bio, honors chem, ap bio and am planning to take ap environmental science next year rather than physics. I was wondering if this would hurt me in the admissions process even though I am not going into stem. I am pretty sure I would struggle a lot in physics and would most probably not enjoy it. Would it really help in the admission process?
Currently an Honours Business student at a T1 university. I did take AP physics in high school but I have plenty of friends who did not. Kind of depends on the school you are looking at. Most T1 or research universities will require a certain amount of credit hours for STEM and may or may not require some physics class. I would just ask either your high school advisor or contact somebody in the admissions office of the school you are looking at, one of those resources is bound to provide you some assistance. Best of luck!
Most colleges have a science component to their gen ed curriculum, at mine you have to take two lectures and a lab. If your school takes the AP credits, you can probably satisfy at least the lectures, but I don't see how physics would do anything other than make you look slightly more competitive. Just make sure you don't need a physics class to graduate from high school or anything.
Hi! I'm a sophomore and taking AP Physics 1 right now. I think that if you aren't planning to be a STEM major, you don't need to worry about it. Especially if you think you will struggle. Colleges want to see that you know how to balance your time as well as get good grades.
