During 2020-early 2023 I didn't take school seriously and I left all the advanced classes I was in, I didn't take the PSAT or my grades seriously either. Last school year I got a GPA of 3.41 but this isn't nearly high enough for what I am aiming. I don't know what classes to take or things to do to fix this.
I think the first thing that should occur is a guidance appointment, as tedious as those are, they are very helpful. After the appointment, you can stay after school to ask certain teachers if there are any missing assignments that could be turned in for partial credit to steadily bring up your grades. Then, join study groups or study halls of productive students, as they can have better influences on scenarios like such. Or, you can sign up for tutoring by teachers or other students. Just remember that it’s a steady process of improvement 😎👍
Improving your GPA is tricky, if your school offers AP courses, those boost your GPA only if you get an A. You can also prove to colleges you are a good student thru the SAT. If you are applying to a school that doesn’t require an SAT, it helps show the college you meet the standard. If its mandatory for the SAT I can’t say the same.
The PSAT doesn't count for anything unless you get a perfect score, you still have time to study for the SAT and/or ACT. I think you should talk to your guidance counselor about which classes meet your abilities while allowing you to get good grades. After that, it will be up to your study habits and the resources you choose to use.
