I know Speech and Debate has been around for longer and is much popular with lots of people doing it but does that mean its better? I know like the saying, do what you love, but I just want to know which one will be more worthwhile my time. Which one will ultimately be like a dealbreaker if you do it on like a semi national or national level?
I think a lot of it could depend on what you intend on majoring in. If you see yourself leaning more towards a career where you’ll be working with other people or you’ll need be creative (law, education, theater, etc), then Speech and Debate is most likely a better option. On the other hand, Academic Decathlon can teach you great study habits and skills, and can show schools that you are a versatile and hardworking student, especially if you do compete on a state or national level. I don’t know how colleges will view these activites, but this is how it could help you now, and in the future.
Honestly both are impressive but I think speech and debate because a lot more kids do it and to be great at it adds another skill to your application.

I see, but how would like a national level award in acadeca compare to a state or invitational award in speech and debate. Since a lot more people do speech and debate the award distribution would also be viewed differently right?
