Extracurriculars explanation
Answered

Hey, I just wanted to ask if anyone could give me a more specific explanation of what extracurriculars are. I know this is a dumb question but I am a first-generation immigrant and homeschooled so I haven't had any chances to learn about them offline where most of the things that I have found aren't detailed. Most of them disagree with each other over what counts and what doesn't or make it confusing to understand what I'm supposed to be doing.

Thanks a lot for the help to anyone who reads this.

Extracurricular activities act as an extension of the academic curriculum. Simply this means you are involved in activities that help learn the values of skills needed as a young adult (teamwork, communication, and responsibility just to name a few...) It provides a more well-rounded picture of who you are, showcasing the diverse skills and experiences that make you a compelling candidate for jobs and colleges. in short, they help you stand out. tons of extracurriculars are meant to fit your personality. there are no specific topics to engage in, each builds your character. some common options are like art, book club, chess, a dance team, and volunteering for your community. However, since you are home-schooled the advantages that come from a traditional school are limited. I would recommend playing on teams for a rec, it's also relatively easy to find activities not associated with a public school. hope this helps!
