Admissions Advice

SAT or ACT

Hello Everyone,

I'm a freshman from CA and looking to major in Data Science and AI. I prefer to go in-state where both SAT and ACT are not considered but want to keep my options open for out of state colleges as well.

Which test would you recommend I prepare for?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly the SAT will give you more time per question -- the ACT has more questions overall, meaning less time you can spend per question. This is just a little bit of info for you, and it's probably the main reason I've chosen to take the SAT, but it's all up to you.

While both are equally important, none of them is harder or more considered in College application than one or the other. But I would say that you prepare for both of them. They both focus on the same fundamental math but ACT relies a bit more on trig and geo. The reader is no different expect I found ACT to be a bit more difficult than SAT but it's only my experience. PSAT 11th grade is used for National Merit Scholarships so personally I owuld focus more on the SAT but it really doesn't matter because for merit-based scholarships colleges account either of them, or even both (or none). Also ACT has science.
