Hello,
I know that the Service Academies are quite different from regular colleges in their selection process, rigor, and the amount of things you have do in a single day. Nonetheless, I am very interested in applying for West Point for the Class of 2029. (graduation 2025). I enjoy the sense of pride in serving my country, not to mention how prestigious it is for someone to be admitted into.
As a short overview, here is a bit of info about me. I have a 3.9 GPA and plan on taking 10 AP courses by the end of high school. (along with the same amount of honor courses). I am involved in extracurricular activities such as student council (with plans to be president or VP next year), peer leadership, community service (with a goal of around 100 hours by the end) and I play in my high school band. Additionally, I do sports all year around with cross country and indoor/outdoor track. I have done pretty well with this part with varsity letters and several improvements over my 3 years. I have been student of the month for October of last year, which is an honor I am proud of. I will not mention SAT scores as I have only done a benchmark with roughly no practice/studying, and with the ACT I have not taken it yet. I have done the PSAT but the highest score I have gotten was a 1140.
I do have plans on studying and retaking the SAT because I know really well how important it is to the academy, and just to see I am also taking the ACT. I have a person from the Academy (a local representative from it) helping me with the whole process, which I cannot stress enough has been extremely helpful. She has given me so much advice that I otherwise wouldn't have possibly gotten. I also have intentions for applying to the SLE Program that will hosted in June. Apart of all the plans I have and her help, I am not sure what else I can do or what I have to be doing in order to better my chances. Despite all of my accomplishments as of now, I feel as if I am missing something important like applying to summer courses/programs to better my chances. This petition for advice is not only for West Point, but for college in general. I know that there will be applicants much well rounded then I am, so I am concerned that I am not taking any actions now and that there will be a point that it is going to be too late.
TLDR: Just asking for advice to West Point, well rounded person but I am not sure what else to do/should be doing.
