I don't like to read, but I get an A/B in English. Which should I take next year as a Junior to make me a competitive candidate when applying to colleges? Ap Lang/Lit or College Eng-(I'd get college credit) Reasoning-college credit might be helpful if I apply in state, but if I choose out of state, would it look good on transcripts? I'll also be taking Pre calc, physics, ap gov, Jr. year. planning to study Business in college.
In my experience, I think that AP Lang would be the better of the two options in terms of usefulness later. AP courses are really widely accepted anywhere you go, which isn’t always the case with Dual-Enrollment, which is why even though they have that big scary test at the end, they stay relevant and popular. It’d be pretty horrible to spend all year in a college level course just to find out the school you get accepted and committed to won’t give you credit for it. AP Lang also follows a format really similar to what you’ll see in college classes, analyzing nonfiction and speeches. Like you said, certain in-state colleges will be thrilled with College English courses and be able to bump you up to more advanced classes right off the bat, but since you’re still a Sophomore, you may decide to go out of state and end up not receiving credit for your work. Schools will still appreciate to see it, even if they won’t give you credit, so I wouldn’t worry about it seeming like a blemish on your transcript. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to decide which you think would benefit you most in the long run. I’d do some further research on the content of both courses if you haven’t already to see if there’s one that piques your interest more in comparison to the other.
