I'm not sure if this belongs in Admissions Advice, but I need some advice. I am currently only taking 3 honors classes, and next year (Sophomore year) I'm going to take 3 AP and 2 honors (AP Physics, AP World History, and AP Stats). I feel like I am seriously underestimating the difficulty of AP compared to honors. How can I manage the workload and the stress of all those classes? Any advice would be appreciated!
Here are some things I did or saw others doing during my AP/Honors classes that I think worked amazing!
1) Get a study buddy/group. I know I struggled with this because of anxiety and whatnot, but seriously when I did have them it helped SO much. Instant homework help, instant lab partner(s), and honestly it helps keep you motivated too!
2) Routine, routine, routine, routine! Have a specific time of the day that you simply set aside to do projects/homework/study. Not only does having a routine take the stress of 'finding time' off your plate, it will help you keep pace or get ahead in classes - which will help too!
3) This might be the most important...don't burn yourself out! Lots of challenging classes can burn you out fast if you're not careful. Take breaks, take care of yourself, don't forget to go out and have fun every once in a while! I also find that on a daily level the pomodoro technique can help you stay motivated throughout the day!
Overall, different things will work for different people, but sophomore year is a great place to start learning the techniques that are gonna work for YOU!
Best of luck,
MarMar <3
It depends on what kind of APs you're taking obviously, but for me personally, there isn't too much difference between an AP class and honors classes. AP classes are definitely more rigorous in terms of having students prepare for the AP exam, but coursework and grades aren't too different from regular classes. I would just make sure that you're getting your homework and classwork done, as you'll fall behind real quick if you don't
