Hi,
My son is currently studying in 11th grade in India - CBSE curriculum. He will finish 11th grade in March 2024. Our family is likely to relocate to Texas on work visa/dependent visa, possibly in the month of May/June 2024. Will he able to join high school in the USA - in 11th Grade or 12th grade / Junior year/Senior year?
Is there anyway I can contact the admission staff in the high school in the relevant school district via email? Do the encourage or answer such queries? Thanks for your time!
Hi, we are still the process of finalizing our move. From the research that we have done and the conversation that I have had with one of high school registrar indicates that it's possible to join junior or senior year, the school will validate the academics reports from India and then determine which grade my son would be admitted. we are thinking of repeating 11th grade to give him time and space to acclimatize with the new academic environment/culture.
He can join and do well in high school, but i'm not sure if he'll be able to get into really good schools. If his ECs and academics are really good coming from India, I would assume colleges would be able to recognize that, but honestly going to an American high school as a senior wouldn't matter to him going to college in the slighest. Senior year is like the least important year throughout all of High School, unless he's gonna take a bunch of AP classes.
Overall, he'll be able to join a U.S high school going into his 12th grade year, but it'll be pointless in terms of trying to boost college chances.
Hi, Myself also planning to move my daughter to US . She have completed her 11th grade CBSE in 2024. Would like to understand if you have decided to move to US ?
Yes, he should be able join a USA high school. Would you mind telling me the exact school district so I can help you figure out how to contact them? I think it is a good idea to reach out to them and find out what steps would be necessary next.

Hi @PM_HS, could you share how your conversations with school districts went? We will be in the same exact situation next year(son completing 11th Grade CBSE and us moving to Texas/Austin) and looking to understand if it is better to plan to move him to US this year itself. We heard that graduation requirements need to be met and wondering if it is practical to try and do them all in Senior year. Also are schools open to enrolling directly into Senior year? Thanks in advance!
