What if I don’t have the ability to continue or take a foreign language?
Answered

I might not be able to take a language course because my school doesn't offer foreign languages, and I would need to commute to another school within the district. I would have to figure out my own transportation. Do you think colleges would understand, or could that still be an issue?"

I have taken French 1 and a trimester of ASL before switching schools ( taken sophomore year )

Some colleges do understand. I was looking at Penn State University b/c I don't have any language credits and they require several. However, they do say you can explain why and fix that lack by taking foreign language in college, I think.

It really depends on the school. I recommend checking the schools you are interested in to see their policies and then if it is not clear cut, reach out to admission counselor and respectfully explain the facts of your situation (without complaining) and ask your questions. I do not recommend sending emails to admission counselors without your parents or teacher or high school counselor proofreading it to make sure it sounds clear, kind, and collected. The impression you leave does matter.

Also, you could take online foreign language classes. There are TONS of available resources out there and I recommend cooridnating with your high school counselor to see if there is a way to make it count as credit. As a homeschooler, I have much flexibility because we create my transcript personally. This means that as long as i keep track of how much I did and time spent each studying session, it will be calculated as credits based on the time spent.

I hope this helps. LMK if you have any more questions!
