What extracurriculars are the strongest choices for me?
Answered

I’m currently a sophomore in high school with pretty good academics, (3.8 unweighted GPA, a 30 average PACT, and I’m in honors and AP courses) which looks great and everything but the only thing I do extracurricular currently is work a part-time job at the elementary school.

I want to be a research scientist, most likely majoring in Astrophysics or Chemistry and won’t be going to an ivy or anything huge like that.

What extracurriculars would be the strongest for me to pick up between this year and senior year?

there are a wide array of science internships at colleges if you have access to any colleges near you, you can also take online courses in subjects of that sort and even start your own club which looks phenomenal. there are science based summer programs everywhere in the U.S, and even science camps you can work at. there are also international and national science competitions and essay competitions that have specific science based criteria. good luck. :)

Hey thanks a lot!! I’ll be checking to see if any nearby colleges have any internship programs I could do. Thank you again :)

My best advice is, pursue your passion! If you love astrophysics or chem, start getting involved in related ECs. This is what makes high school fun BUT demonstrates your early interest- very appealing to colleges. Explore the field and either you will love it more or decide you want to do something else. It's ok to change your mind about your major or even the school you want to attend.

But like I said, simply doing what you love is good for your mind and body, too. Having fun things you enjoy allows you to relax, recalibrate, and refresh. For me personally, doing ECs I love has kept me alert and a better student. I pay attention and feel very self-motivated because I have a bigger goal than getting through a day; I am preparing for my fantastic future career! Dive into your interests and just watch yourself grow. You will be way more prepared for your career and life in general!

Hope this is helpful and lmk if you have any more questions. Happy highschooling!
