Hi everyone,
I'm a junior in high school, and I have already been recruited into a pretty selective school. However, that school does not guarantee admissions, and although the coach said I looked like a solid applicant, I still wanted to make my application stronger to reduce the risk of being dropped. I realized I don't have any exceptional awards (or really any awards at all), and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good awards to get/apply to for juniors? Also, what are Academic Excellence Awards, and how do you get them? (Do you need to apply, or does your school determine who gets it?) I know it's probably a little late for me to accumulate very valuable awards, but any recommendations would help! Thank you so much!
You could earn awards in various ways, such as participating in essay contests, art contests, the National History Day Club (if offered by your school), or community service programs. Additionally, many schools have programs like AVID, NHS, or Beta that offer awards to participants. The Academic Excellence Awards are given to students who maintain consistently high marks throughout the year, have a general average of at least 90 (a 3.9 or higher GPA), and pass all their final exams. However, it's important to note that these awards are not something you can apply for, as your school decides who receives them.
My situation is different, being a homeschool student and the main competition I have entered was exclusively for homeschool students. I personally have entered a lot of essay or other writing competitions but that is probably not what you are looking at.
