I recommend more volunteer hours...find something you personally value. We don't want to volunteer out of obligation but out of the heart of desiring to use our gifts and abilities to help other people.

I also recommend staying ultra involved in what you do have. If it is a job, normally hs students have various jobs, so if you are working for a couple months but no longer, that's pretty normal. However, I must honestly say that you may not (I could be wrong) get into highly competitive schools. That's ok- many students can work terribly hard to get into Ivies and then not be happy with the school. It is better to find The School for you; there's a good fit for everyone!
