What effect does Hope Squad have on college applications?

Good evening!

I hope you are having a good day!

I am currently an eighth grader who is about to go into highschool net year, and I have hit a dilemma. I was nominated for Hope Squad at the highschool level. It would take up one class period, and is an on-level (4.0) credit.

The issue is, I want to be a surgical oncologist. I am scared that this would bring down my GPA, and that I wouldn't be able to get into my school of choice.

Do you have any clue on how this would affect my college applications?

Thank you for your time!

Being part of Hope Squad is generally good for college applications. It shows you have leadership skills and care about your community, which colleges like.

Taking the Hope Squad class may slightly lower your GPA since it's not an advanced class, but colleges look at more than just grades. Being well-rounded by doing activities like Hope Squad can help your application even if your GPA goes down a little bit. The only time it may hurt is if you're applying to colleges that really only care about having a super high GPA and nothing else.
