Hi, So I did Algebra 1 freshmen year and got an A, and then did Honors Geometry in sophomore year and got a A. Algebra 1 was super easy but I struggled quite a bit in Geometry but ended up doing good. Now this summer I have the chance to take Algebra 2 or I can wait for the fall to start Honors Algebra 2 but then I would not have a chance to do an AP Calc class. So should I do Algebra 2 over the summer than do AP Calc AB junior year and AP Calc BC senior year or should I do Algebra 2 over the summer then do AP Stats (11th) and AP Calc AB (12th). I wanna major in Pre-med at a top20 or ivy league so AP courses are super important to me, I already am doing AP Lang, Lit, Gov, US history, Human Geo, Psychology, Biology, Eurohistory, and am missing a math course, or lastly I could just do Honors Algebra 2 in 11th grade , and self study for AP Stats and then do AP Calc AB in senior year. What do you think?
If you think you can take Algebra 2 and Pre-calculus during the summer, go for it! Finish your math credits as early as possible, so you could focus more on your passion (science for pre-med) and other AP subjects.
I took Honors Algebra 1 in 6th grade, Honors Geometry in 7th grade, Honors Algebra 2 in 8th grade, Pre-Calculus and AP Statistics in 9th grade, AP Calculus AB in 10th grade, and AP Calculus BC in 11th grade (this year). I plan to take multivariable calculus (Calculus III) during the summer and am currently choosing my classes for senior year.
Strengthen your strengths (which I assume is STEM) and get it to the highest levels possible!
In addition, 1-2 years of Calculus level or higher is usually recommended for top schools, so keep that in mind.
Hope this helps,
