Hello, I was wondering what are some good ec's that can boost my chances. I am a rising senior and I really want to ED Emory (out of state)
SAT: 1360 640 RW 720 M (retaking in August)
GPA: 3.9 UW
Major: Chemistry or Biology or Health Sciences
My school for 9-10 didn't have any AP classes and I did online school for 11(all honors). Moving to new state 12th grade and might take 5 APs; Calc BC, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Literature
ECs:
1. Senior Member of a Dance Team
2. TA for dance classes
3. VP of club to support Black women in my school
4.VP of Red Cross club
5. Member of HOSA and won regional award
6. Volunteer in a community organization to house, feed, and donate necessities to low-income/homeless families
For my 12th grade year I might start tutoring and getting a job, should I ED somewhere else?
You should consider retaking your SAT, because it is a little below the average for Emory University. (The middle 50% of students who got accepted into Emory University have scores between 1430-1550. 25% of students who got in scored below these ranges, and 25% of students who got in scored above these ranges.) When improving your SAT score, you should aim to get a higher score for reading. (In order to be in the middle 50% or higher, try to get at least a 700 or better for reading, and 730 or greater for math.) It is ok that you didn't take AP classes in 10th or 11th grades, since your school did not offer them. However, it is good that you still took all honors courses in 11th grade. You should definitely consider taking 5 AP classes in 12th grade, but make sure that you are able to handle those classes, and maintain a good GPA. For your extracurriculars make sure to keep showing leadership. (Make sure to show which positions you are in the clubs. (Such as VC, TA, etc.) Tutoring is beneficial, since it shows both leadership, and expertise in academic subjects. You could also consider starting your own club that connects to your interests in Chemistry, Biology, or Health Sciences. Colleges look for good grades, SAT scores, course rigor, and for the extracurriculars you should pick mainly extracurriculars that are related to your major, and a few that are not (Related to some other academic field of study, such as, Language Arts, Economics, or Physics.) to show that you have interest in various interdisciplinary studies. Make sure to highlight key roles (such as President of a club) , and different accomplishments and achievements.
