My GPA was a 3.6 and I had never taken APs before. This past summer I tried out taking a dual enrollment class to bring my GPA up (I needed an A to bring my GPA up) and I had flunked out on the last exam of the class out of fear that I would fail (and I did), my Grade went from a -B to a C and now I do not know what to do.
The reason why I flunked out was because I knew it was the last day and I had about two to three mental breakdowns over summer because of this class. I had studied as much as I could, 10-15 hours a day yet failed (I know, it was because that I was not studying efficiently).
I was supposed to have a chance at SDSU despite being told multiple times I did not (and multiple other GPA and SAT calculators said I was more likely to be rejected but I never gave up). I think at this point I should give up, I already gave up my chance at the other colleges that gave me an easier chance because I knew that I could never make it. Even if I had gotten two A’s as a rising senior, in the senior semester, it would still not give me a chance at the college I wanted to go to.
I feel like I have ruined my chance at the life I wanted, at being praised for just simply something, I feel like I have ruined my future, my life, my chance at success and everything else.
Hi! I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. But don't worry! There is always community college, and you can transfer after a year to a better school. High school doesn't determine everything. Your life is not ruined. And tbh if you applied to a college as a transfer, you would have an even higher chance of getting in. Don't give up, I believe in you :)
Thank you, I was actually intending to go to community college even if my whole life went right to avoid the debt. I wanted to work on a research paper on my own and study as much as I could.
As previously mentioned, numbers are only part of the admissions picture. Use your essays to give the college insight into you and your individual situation. Use the additional information section to share about your struggles with anxiety and mental health. Make sure to complete an essay for SDSU explaining your commitment to the school and your relentless pursuit of learning there, despite discouragement and obstacles. Create a whole picture of yourself that builds context for your setbacks and highlights your perseverance.
Thank you, but I do not know if I have enough words to put a paragraph into my essay talking about my perserverance. Also how do I mark this as answer?
Hey, I am sorry to hear what happened to you, it happens to the best of us. However, I think that your grades and exam scores are just half the glass. The other half is filled with time-worthy extracurricular activities. If you have solid EC's, then I think that good colleges will notice you. Not everyone accepted into Harvard has a 4.0 GPA. There are some outliers who got in by having SPECTACULAR EC's. I hope this helps and I am sorry you are feeling this way.
I have done 7 ECs, does that seem like enough?
-30 hours max in korean honor society for 3 years
-failed attempt as treasurer but remained in the Student ambassador union
- A failed attempt to join the Future business leaders of America yet will join next year
-have been secretary, vice president and now president of the karaoke club of 3 years of being in the club
- have done taekwondo for 3 years
-apart of a freshmen help association for a year called link crew to help avoid freshmen ending up like me
-have been in library committee to help build a new library despite going to be out of HS when the library is done.
But thank you for your words! I feel a bit better!
These EC's are pretty good, but to level it up further you will want to find leadership roles. For example, you could start a new club at your school for a subject in interest (it can be anything, there is a dungeons and dragons club at my school ;]). This shows colleges that you are ready to take leadership among their school and you have experience. My only thing is that you make a club about something you want to major in. Also, depending on what your ACT and SAT scores are, colleges notice you more. If you can give me your full resume (all ec's + grades, sat, act) I can tell you which colleges might want you and might accept you. I am glad to hear you're feeling better and I hope this helps.
Well I tried to create a history club but I failed to even get members. I got a 1140 on my SAT but intend to retake in October, Almost through out high school my grades were a 4A's and 2B's. I never took APs before but intend to in senior year, 4 APs. I also intend to start applying early to easy schools, then overtime, apply to harder schools overtime so I can get time to submit my grades.
Yet because of the C my grade will drop to a 3.4, and If I get 2 more A's, it will go back to a 3.6 which to me seems embarrassing.
But, should I restudy my precalculus curriculum on my own time?
At the beginning of Precalculus and also half way through the year, I thought that it was a useless class and that it had nothing to do with Calculus. However, I soon realized that all of these skills are very useful for Calculus, like understanding and memorizing the Trigonometric identities. So if you really think that you suck and Precalculus, then I would recommend studying what you don't understand and memorizing the identities thoroughly. Hope this helps.
The thing is that the class closed so I can't check what I got wrong on the exam, but I will try my best. Should I put in my application that I intend to restudy what I got wrong?
I would also like to say thank you for everything, I feel much better from than before!
One more question (so sorry if this is late) but is it fine to take 4 APs for a start? I am doing honors korean, AP LIT, AP US GOV and AP stats, but AP stats is said to be like normal stats so I don’t know if I would count that.
I think that it is fine to take as many AP's as you want as long as you know that you can keep up with it. For example, a kid at my school took 7 AP's last year and he got a 5 on all of them (AP Chem, AP Physics 1, AP Bio, AP Comp A, AP Lit, APUSH, AP Cybersecurity). As long as you think that you can handle it, then it is fine.
For a start tho.. this is my first time
