ED or RD??

So I'm a rising high school senior. I've heard from multiple people to apply ED to ivies, but I've also heard lots of people say to apply RD because ED is mainly athletes and prodigies. I'm really high-achieving and a strong applicant, in general but especially for my rural high school. Really strong and well-balanced (but quality) extracurriculars with real impact. The thing I've heard is that if you're a rural student, an athlete, or a prodigy, you should apply early (specifically to ivies). Should I apply ED to Yale??

Applying early is always a good thing if you're confident! You should be careful, though. ED is a binding contract, so you should REALLY make sure you want to go to whatever college you apply ED for! If you're committed to Yale, then just make sure you can and will pay for it if you are accepted, even if you get good offers at other universities.

Otherwise, ED isn't really any stricter than RD. All it can give you is better chances, as it shows you're very committed to attending. If you get rejected ED, you likely would've been rejected in RD, and you can still get deferred to RD if Yale's admissions officers still need some time to consider your application. There's also no consequences if you're rejected, you're only bound if you're accepted, so you can still apply to any other universities on your list just in case.

So... All in all, I'd say to fill out Yale's NPC (Net Price Calculator) first, then decide. If you can pay and you're REALLY committed, then I say go for it!
