I was going through some university websites like St. Louis University and discovered about a program called a BS/MD program. I learnt it was a good way to accelerate one's medical studying journey and at some point I learnt that it was a program requiring full commitment to medicine. If I want to be flexible by this I mean a medical major with a minor like Computer Science should I still do the BS/MB program? I also wanted to ask if participating in a BS/Mb program is compulsory to do a medicine related undergraduate degree?
-A BS/MD program offers a streamlined but often demanding route to medicine, requiring strong commitment. especially if it is less than 8 years. Also, in some you don't have to take the MCAT and/or have a certain score on it.
-Some programs allow flexibility for minors or double majors, but this varies widely—always check specific program requirements.
-You do not need to do a BS/MD program to earn an undergraduate degree related to medicine or to apply to medical school later.
-The traditional route is more flexible for exploring other academic interests alongside pre-med studies.
If flexibility and the ability to explore non-medical interests (like Computer Science) are priorities for you, consider carefully whether a BS/MD is the right fit, and check the requirements of each program you consider.
