what should i write my college essay about?
Answered

i already wrote one but i lowk dont like it so back to square one!! which of these ideas do you all think is the best?

(for context, i want to major in neuroscience and psychology to become a pediatric neuropsychologist)

IDEAS:

-coaching a swim team and realizing my passion for helping kids (the pediatric part of pediatric neuropsychologist)

-changing my mind on what i wanted to major in (i rly wanted to do english for awhile)--basically like yapping abt embracing change and discovering new passions

-about growing up with my sisters (i dont rly know what in particular to say abt this but trust im a great writer)

-writing a book (ITS UNPUBLISHED GUYS IM NO GENIUS)

-my neighborhood (were all like a tight knit community and again trust i can write)

if youre like "these all suck!" dw twin im right there with you! if you have literally any feedback that would be greatly appreciated

I think a lot of these could work very well on the sheer premise that the essay is just meant to show admissions officers more about YOU. I wouldn't write about changing your mind on your major; you could include that as a point in a different essay. Additionally, you shouldn't write about the unfinished book, as it could be a valuable extracurricular activity instead if you complete it on time for applications.

The rest of those can definitely work, as long as it's more about what you took out of the experiences or places rather than just stories about them! I'd absolutely try writing about your time coaching, as it ties the most into your story, what you enjoy, and your goals with college. Good luck! :D

My favorite is the swim team one, but I feel like it's missing something. Sure, it led you to realize that you wanted to work with kids, but what kind of impact did YOU make? What lessons did you learn, and how did you apply them outside of coaching?

Was one person a slower learner, and was often discouraged as a result? Did you learn that each person learns differently, so the way you teach must be adapted? Find some way to introduce the neuro aspect.
