HELP WITH ESSAYS!!

I've submitted two essays and the reviewers both said that it didn't make sense. How can I improve my writing so that it makes sense? And how can I improve on my writing overall?

Write like you're talking to a 6th grader, then improve the word choice. Ask yourself what you're saying, then write that in its barest form, then upgrade it with details and other things. Also write the essay you want to read. If you get lost in long boring stories with flowery language, then don't write that kind of essay. A college is looking for you in your essay, not anyone else. Good Luck.

While I obviously haven't read your writing, I can assume this confusion came from an overly-faked paper. My best advice is to write like YOU. Don't try to force a poetic, inspiring, or formal narrative voice if that's not you. Maybe you are really into poetry or just tend to write formally, and that's fine, but try to make your college essays more casual. My advice is to write like you're speaking to an AP teacher or college professor: academic, but casual!

I would put the essay into AI and have it identify the areas that are unclear and then go from there

ask yourself the questions:

- what did i write about?

^ what do most people feel when they hear your story? how do you want them to feel? do you want to build upon their current perception, or reshape their thoughts? ie:what do you want to convey

- how did i try and hook the reader?

- did i show, or did i tell? what words can i use to do that?

- if this is a stranger on the street, and you have 20 minutes to make them understand to the fullest extent (given that you have 20 minutes) who you are, does this accurately convey that?

- what diction (word choice) did you use? is it authentic to you? would you use it in every day conversation? is it too blah, or imprecise? could some words you use have more than one meaning, or a slightly different meaning than intended? (if you're struggling with this, one helpful way is to simply look at the root words within a word and think about your first thought/feeling when you saw that word. ex: chartreuse. most people know that's like a light, vibrant green color, but everyone feels a maroon kinda color)

- how has what you've written about affected you as a person?

- is it cliche?
