Can an IEP (Individualized Education Program) student take AP/honors classes without their IEP not being meant

I am an IEP student and thinking about taking AP Gov and politics and/or honors chemistry in 10th grade, but I'm worried about if I take these classes my IEP wont be meant by the school or the department and due to past problems with schools with IEP, I'm just worried if I'd took AP/honors classes and my high school thinks if I'd took an AP/honors class, they can just put it on hold or something.

due to past issues I would check in with your guidance counselor to see if it is the right course of action.
