Howdie! Currently a freshman and we have just recently started the second semester. As of the first semester I had a GPA of 3.7 unweighted and 4.1 weighted. Just wondering, but do colleges specifically look at freshman GPAs or mostly junior GPAs? I can still work to get a better GPA by the end of the year but don't want to overdo it. Is it really worth it.
Best regards,
Emmitt B
Will Do!
Hey Emmitt, I am currently a senior and I do have to say that colleges look at all grades and what courses you took each semester. Believe me, it is best to over do it to make sure the college you would like to go to accepts you, which I am sure they will. If anything focus on courses that you could take in high school so you don't have to take them in college. Hope this helps and good luck!
Sincerely,
Makayla
I've seen too many people panicked junior year because a low freshman grade is dragging down their GPA. The higher, the better, as long as it isn't overworking yourself. However, if your grade is lower than you thought, colleges like to see upward trends, so progression and improvement is key.
Your grades in freshman year are more important than you think. I'm a junior and I have a high gpa but ever since 9th grade my GPA has only gone down not up despite getting A's in all my classes. Your grades in freshman year are the foundation, and if your foundation is not good, it can be difficult to raise your gpa in the future. For now a 3.7 is fine but if you're aiming for top schools you should try to aim for a 3.8 or even a 3.9.
Also colleges look at your junior GPA at the end of 2nd semester of 11th grade. Your GPA right now is not final and it is bound to change as you progress through high school.
Extra tip, if your school offers it, take GPA booster classes like AP classes and score A's in those, it will help raise your gpa.
Good luck! :)
