I'm really stressing about my schedule for next year (senior year). We do block scheduling. My mom says I won't get into any top schools if I don't take AP Calculus. Is she right? My top school is Boston College, and I want to be a Finance major, but Precalc was hard (I finished with a B-) and AP Calc doesn't seem super relevant to what I want to do so that's why I put Calculus 1, AP Stat, and AP Comp. Sci. into my schedule for next year. If I take AP Calc, I have to drop Comp. Sci. and Calc 1 (obviously). I don't know what to do. Any and all advice is welcome. I just don't know what to do.
Other classes I'm taking next year:
Honors Wind Ensemble
AP Psychology
AP English Literature
Honors Physics
Personal Finance Elective
It sounds like you're in a tough spot! It's understandable to feel stressed about your schedule, especially with so much pressure to take certain classes for college admissions. While AP Calculus can definitely look impressive on a college application, it's not the only class that matters. If you found Precalculus challenging and don’t feel confident about AP Calculus, it might be wiser to focus on classes where you can grow and that align more with your interests, like AP Statistics and AP Comp. Sci. Boston College, like many schools, looks at your overall academic profile, including your GPA, the classes you took, and your grades in them. If you do well in the classes you enjoy and that relate to Finance, that can be just as valuable as taking AP Calculus. You might also want to check out Boston College's admissions page or talk to your school counselor for more specific advice about their requirements. Overall, it’s essential to pick a schedule that lets you excel and have a great time during your senior year. Go with what feels right for you! Wishing you the best of luck!
