I’m looking to be either a business or computers major and was curious to know how I could develop my spike? Should I focus on attending competitions and getting awards, summer school, starting clubs, internships, or all? Also where can I find info about these opportunities so I know I’m not missing out.
I think that people take too long to find their so called 'spike', but I think that you shouldn't care about how the college administrators will see it, and just do whatever you feel like excites you. I'm not telling you not to care about those things but I feel like once you find something that you love, it will be sooooooo much easier to get awards in it and 'stand out'. I think that you might want to look into some business and coding clubs and look into internships and summer schools (if you can afford 1000 dollars for 1 week) later into high school.
I think you can do all depending on what type of school you go to and the opportunities they offer. You can find club like Robotics, Programming Club that participate in yearly competitions or create a club with the help of a teacher that have the opportunities to participate in competitions. Internships or job shadowing would be a good way to create connections for future recommendation letters when applying to college, summer programs and scholarships. For that I would mainly just search up internships around my area it goes a long way. As of now I only know of GIRLS WHO CODE summer program that is opened. You can use fastweb to find scholarships and internships.
