For example, computer science at Purdue is more competitive than some of their other programs, and it would be very useful if the chancing reflected this. I know that this would be difficult to implement, but it would make the chancing tool 100x more useful than it already is.
The CollegeVine chancing engine actually does take choice of major into account. If you change your major in the chancing profile section of your account, the chance of admission shown in the chancing profile should change to reflect the competitiveness of the major you selected.
It is my understanding that CollegeVine groups majors together into major groupings (called areas of study) that are all similar in terms of acceptance rate and career outcomes. This may account for why some of the majors produce the same chancing results. In addition, choice of major us not taken into account at all colleges, which may also explain why changing the major doesn’t change the chancing results. I am not sure if that helps or not, but I know that changing majors from CS to business did impact chancing results at some of the colleges in my college list.
