Help with ec's?!

Hi! I am a current junior in high school interested in going in the pharmacy field. I was wondering if I want to major in biology for undergrad what ec's and online programs/internships should I participate in as it's kind of hard to get extracurriculars that enforce the demonstrated interest? Also any pharmacy related ec's and volunteer opportunities?

Clarification questions: Do you mean in college or in high school?

In college, you should definitely try interning as early as possible at a pharmacy or even at a hospital. I believe this is the best extracurricular you could possibly do!! Jobs/high education schools (med school) like to see/admit students with experience. You could also start up a club if there aren't any clubs at your college. You could try joining Business Professionals of America(BPA) at a college level. They have some science-related events that could be useful to you. If all else fails, try to find something you are really passionate about and try to excel/spike in that. Potential example: write a blog on pharmacy/biology and update it frequently. This will also appeal to colleges/employers.

In high school, it may be a little too late to start up a new extracurricular since you're already in 11th grade. But, you can try joining science olympiad; it's all about science, which is what your field is about. You could try volunteering at a hospital or clinic, but it may be nearly impossible since covid is a restriction. You could try getting a job at a local pharmacy for minor tasks such as cleaning up the lab and etc, and eventually become an intern/full-time employee.

Note: your extracurricular don't exactly need to be entirely related to your interest. For example, you can join the debate team, and be a bio major at the same time. You need to apply the skills you learned from debate (critical thinking, reasoning, arguing for the right reasons, etc) to the pharmacy. You will have to argue and explain why a certain chemical should go into a medicine/pill, and what the benefits and risks are. Another example, if you are in the writing club, or you are the state champion in a writing competition, this EC can also be applied to your interest in pharmacy. You may have to write reports on your labs while you are a pharmacist, this experience will look impressive and come in handy. As long as you can apply the skills your extracurricular to pharmacy, it will be beneficial to you.

I hope this helps! Best of luck to you!!
