Hi! I was wondering if sending out emails next week and "cold-calling" professors would be too late if I wanted to get a research opportunity possibly over the summer? (if the professors even reply or are willing to). Thanks :)

Hi! It's totally not too late to send out emails to professors and, in fact, that's actually a really good way to get in touch with them. I've had a lot of luck in the past with emailing professors and explaining why I'm interested in working with them. A decent number respond and, of those, many of them enthusiastically. Because who wouldn't want to work with someone who's excited about what you do?

What sort of research did you get to do?

I've only emailed professors about Linguistics research but was able to do it at a relatively prestigious school that I don't attend.

That's great! I'm worried I won't be qualified enough since I'm hoping to do STEM related research but don't really have much experience

I see, that does make sense. I think it's worth a try anyway! And worse comes to worst you're back where you started.
