Aim for two or three letters of recommendation, maybe four but try not to go 5+

It depends, usually if schools ask for them they will ask for at least two academic ones and one from your counselor under a different name (it's called something else like counselor evaluation by it's basically the same thing). I don't know if this is for all schools but my dream school only lets you send one extra rec letter. I imagine most schools are similar, you can look under the how to apply section on the schools website and it will usually say it on there so you can check without having to contact them first.
