Admission for a internation student with a sister that went to the same college
Answered

Hi! I am not from the US but i am planning on going to college there. My sister is studying in South Carolina and I am planning on doing the same, although she is way more intelligent than me. Having a sister that went to that school gives you any type of advantage?

Hi:

It would depend on the school. This is called sibling legacy. If your sister is a well-respected student, then this may be viewed favorably. Of course, It won't be a deciding factor or impact your application negatively.

I would not depend on sibling legacy to get in though. Nothing beats GPA, test scores, rec letters, and activities.

that actually depends on the schools that ur applying to. for instance, schools like ivies value legacy a lot more than others. having a sibling/parent who goes/went to the school may increase ur chances to some extent. but at the end of the day, it's about u, not them.
